 Ivan Doroschuk是加拿大樂隊Men Without Hats的鍵琴手兼主音。他曾在夜店因隨著強勁的音樂節拍跳舞，或加上受到酒精影響，開始跳得激烈起來，不單雙手亂舞，腳也不自覺地亂踢起來，周圍四處亂碰亂撞，因為有人被撞倒受傷，甚至跌倒後導致人踩人，而被保安驅逐出夜店，這件事令他深深不忿，覺得自己的跳舞自由被剝奪，於是他創作了一首歌來作出抗議。這首歌名叫《The Safety Dance》。

“The Safety Dance”想表達的就是我有跳舞的自由。縱使”you can act real rude and totally removed”，但是”we can dance if we want to”。

除了跳舞的自由，這首歌同時也擴大範圍伸延到”Freedom of Expression”這些人類最核心最根本的普世價值：

“We can dance if we want to……”

“We can go where we want to……”

“We can act if we want to……”

以上MV裏所用的”The Safety Dance”是一個較短的single version，只有2分47秒長。
